September 18, 2023: Approval of A Commemorative Plaque at the Dundurn Castle, Hamilton

Hello Everyone.

I'm Amber Scott, one of the Directors for the Ontario Deaf Foundation (ODF). My specific responsibility is for the Deaf Hamilton Community Fund.

ODF has an exciting announcement to share with you.

Last year, you may remember that we shared the information that the Dundurn Castle was previously a school for the deaf prior to the opening of the Belleville School for the Deaf and that we wanted people to become aware of this. So after some investigation, we had discovered that a plaque could be installed on the Castle grounds and that in order for our application to be successful, we first had to raise the money. That’s when we asked for your help.

We want to thank you for your help and for your support. Last year, some of you gave money to a GoFundMe account. Some of you sent money to us directly and some of you participated in our ODF hosted events, a Walk-a-thon, and an evening presentation on the Deaf Holocaust.

PAH! The money was raised and the City of Hamilton approved our application!

This year, ODF will not host any events during the International Week of the Deaf. However, we invite you to please join us next year to celebrate that installation of the plaque during IWD 2024.
